Cpl. James Hoyland of the City of New Castle Police Department in New Castle, PA is the SRO at the Lawrence County Career and Technical Center (LCCTC). He has been an officer at NCPD for 16 years, including being a team leader and breacher on the Lawrence County Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT). Cpl. Hoyland is a Use of Force instructor and General instructor for the IUP police academy. Cpl. Hoyland is also the Chief of School Police for the Laurel School District in New Castle, PA. He also is a Medal of Valor recipient.
Cpl. Hoyland is very involved at LCCTC with the student body. Not only does he help with all of the various fundraisers the students have to fund their Skills USA competitions, but every year he takes a group of students on their own version of Shop with a Cop. Cpl. Hoyland and the group of students travel to nearby department stores and purchase clothing for the school’s “Clothes Closet”. New Castle is a financially distressed area and the Clothes Closet does allow some of the disadvantaged students access to winter clothes or work clothes that they may not be able to get at home.
